I was lazy and used my local BMW Dealer so paid top wack £59 ( Price for a Red one was £78.18 ! )

Go clear, it's cheaper. Red ones are just boring and no one will know how cool you are. Enthusiasts notice these things.

Yup - questionably legal - but I have yet to have an issue with local law enforcement. And, in CA it would be a $25.00 fix-it ticket. Also very easily removable if it's not your thing.

In my opinion car looks a bit younger with clear one. But if you wanna go with classic clean look red one is the right one.
On a FL rear end you can get away with clear as the indicators are also clear. But pre-FL with ginger indicators and clear brake light it just look weird. Riced if you want
