I'm new to the the world of the Z4 but there dose seem a lot of interest in clear hockey sticks.

Well I do have a contact who will definatly be able to make some, they wont be cheap due to size and shape and the limited numbers likely to be wanted but if someone can lend me one (and amber would be fine) I can find out.

I have had front indicator lenses mad for classic TVRs in the past, see this sample where they were supplied clear, amber or smoked

Very nice example!
I don't need but have you any idea about the price? Someone's going to ask it anyway :) ...

Its a silicone moulding process which uses an original (dosent damage it) to produce the mould and is priced in 2 parts. Firstly for the mould and that cost is directly related to the overall size of the mould, the mould will last for about 20 - 25 casts and then has to be remade. The cost of the lens is then a percentage of the mould price so to get an accurate quote a sample is needed to measure. Dont forget the colour is immaterial nad there must be a number of amber samples around. It would of course be returned.

Alternativly if someone has a hockey stick and measurers the size of a box which would just accomadate it i can get an indicative price.

Dependent on cost, I'd be very interested in a set. As you'll know from some of my previous posts, I've been searching - unsuccessfully - for an amber hockey stick for a while. Hopefully someone will be able to donate one for the purposes of this...

Mad for it  (as long as the cost doesn't take the micky)

I'm in.... :)

An approx cost would be helpful. Even ball park.

I would happily part with a reasonable lump of cash to de-amber. As long it's not getting into 2nd hand lights territory on the £££ scale....

Gonna follow this thread with interest. I've gone after market route but oem look is better. And seconding that said above, there s plenty interest on the forum. if the cost could come in for less that 50 quid, and let's be honest, its only a moulding and then cast material you ll sell hundreds. Me included. But would have to buy back another pair of OEMs!

I might offer a cut and shut angel service if this works out!

I'm going to look at doing this in the summer if nobody beats me to it. The thing is, the hockey sticks are a very complicated shape compared to the simple tvr indicator that you have shown.

It's likely to require more than a simple 2 piece mould, which will make it more costly if done by a modelling/prototype company. The original bmw items are injection moulded out of polycarbonate, its unlikely that you'll find anyone to cast polycarbonate but an alternative such as acrylic may be possible, I'm not even sure that casting this shape will be possible due to the shape and thin walls of the lens.

If you can find a company to make them, then you'll definitely have a lot of people on here wanting to buy, me included.

Keep us updated,

Andrew.

I'd swear that late last year somebody was talking about doing this and another prominent forum member had also sent him a pair of hockey sticks to use...

My only concern with doing these in resin is the longevity when exposed to UV. Although the outer polycarbonate lens should filter out much of the UV light, you would need to ensure that the clear hockey stick resin still isn't going to yellow quickly. I've experienced clear resins that included a UV stabiliser but still went yellow after only a couple of years.

That said, I'm definitely interested too though ;)

I have spoken to my contacts and they cant get their heads around the pictures and looking t the outside on a headlight!!
