Before I make a mess can anyone give me some guidance as to how to clean and possibly treat the "backetball" textured dash material on my Z4? It has a lot of dust between the dimples and seems to be a little grey...
Hi Z4GVA; I would vacuum first to remove any dust or dirt. I use Armorall for plastic/vinyl. It doesn't leave a greasy mess but keeps it from getting that faded out look you're referring to. It's kind of messy on the windows, but I just bite the bullet and spray everything down real good and let it soak for a bit, then wipe off. I use cotton balls and Q-tips for the really tiny places between the window buttons on the doors and such. Cleaning the windows afterwards is always a chore, but you don't have to do it every time you clean the interior unless your Z is in the sun constantly with the top down. I usually do mine about every other time or so.
Enjoy!,
T.
That textured surface is to reduce glare and a reflection of the dash on the windshield and it works well. I hate driving my wife's car on a sunny day.
But yes, it is a PITA to clean. And mine has an uneven patina - shinier in some areas and dull in others. I could use a vinyl dressing but I don't want it too shiny because that would defeat the intended design. Will any of the products mentioned work for me?
Gary, the Armorall for vinyl/plastic that I use leaves no shine whatsoever, just looks 'healthy'. I'm sure there are others out there that work just as well, but that is the one I found that I like best
