Yeah, they're barely visible on mine after I started treating it with Autoglym softop cleaner but I'd like to give it a blue tint. I've only ever seen one Z4 with a blue roof. Looks great :drool:

Cheers cj10jeeper, that's precisely the info I was looking to hear. I know you'd previously said similar when this topic's come up in the past, but I'd never heard the reasoning behind it. Raggtop's what I'm going with but I'm first looking for a good cleaner to remove any lingering AG stuff and generally clean the fabric.
It was worth this discussion because the general view on the "experts" forum (DW) are that the beading ones are the best option. But the Z4 roof is certainly different to most fabric roof designs in the outer layer being designed to be permeable...

Think i will give that a miss.
Below is a pic i took today around a month after last cleaning this section with BMW cleaner as you can see its back :x but always have had mildew on this part of the roof even with protection applied but its normally easy to remove a bit like surface rust the problem marks are just above this the more faded looking mildew have been told that it can leave stains so maybe thats what they are also you will notice small dots a bit further up these are like little spores and are also annoying me this is why i need to find something that will really get into the weave and clear the top once and for all :x .
May try cleaning this small section again then applying the BMW protection just to this area and see if i get the build up again.
Ok what about those hard to reach areas down the rear part of the roof that fold away or are usually out of sight, I've noticed these are beginning to look a bit grim so i was wondering how people have addressed this part given you cant use a hose there? Ps I've always used the autoglym kit on the rest of the roof and found it very good.
I've noticed that you can see more of the fabric (that's usually hidden by the bodywork) when you have the roof dropped. You'd have to be careful not to soak the interior but that's how I tidied mine up when I first got mine. Not been a problem since as mine's always garaged since I took possession.
That line of algae is similar to when I got my Zed.
The trick is to part lower the roof that allows you to get to it. I used the cleaner and a soft nail brush. The action I used was more akin to a rotary toothbrush, using the bristles to agitate not scrub (fear of piling or wearing the fibres)
Next step was to sort the cause and I found underneath that a line of slime develops on the rubber seal. Wiped that off, dried it and frankly never seen and algae again ( I do however garage it and lower the roof every time it's dry and use the hardtop in Winter, so not normal outdoor life)

Had the same prob when using the AG kit that line of algae is not what really pisses me off as its not hard to remove.
