Clay kit and Supaguard

Hi all,

I've got a clay bar kit that I hope to be able to use in 2014 if it ever stops raining.

My car has been treated with Supaguard. Will the clay bar strip this off as well do you think? This might be a really dumb question but I really have no idea...

Thanks

Dan

I guess it depends how aggressive the clay you have is. I'm not an expert (far from it), but I'd imagine the clay will at least do some damage / detriment to the supaguard.

Who put the supaguard on, did you do it yourself, or a dealer?

From what I've heard dealers rarely apply it correctly / prepare the paint correctly in any event.

You'd be better of stripping and sealing yourself imo.

I would think the clay will fetch the Supagard off. You shouldn't need to clay it if it has Supagard on should you?
I sent them a message on facebook once asking about using a pressure washer and they were really helpful. They will let you know if it will remove the Supagard protector.

Thank you!

I did think it would be the case but wasn't sure how aggressive the clay would be.

Sytner put the Supagard on when the car was new... I might get in contact with them and see what they say.

If it's better left alone then I won't use the clay on it at all.

Thanks for the info.

Its just a sealant so yes a clay bar will remove some if not all of it. Its not the best product in the world tbh and any after market sealant will do the job just as well if not better. I realise they say it will last years, but its more like a year for any decent level of protection. Best to clay bar, polish and re apply some nice sealant then wax.

Polish is just that, something to smooth (and fill in the case of some polishes) out the scratches. You then need to put sealant or wax on top.

So as I mentioned above, wash, clay, polish, (sealant if you want) then wax.

Oh god there are loads, best do that research on detailingworld because it depends on your paint colour, paint condition, whether you want shine or longevity etc

Clay will remove Superguard. That's not a bad thing, it's not that great. Your better off with a good polish and wax :)

Right, that's some good advice then! Will clay and then source some decent polish and wax!

Thanks guys

I think there a lot of theories about clay stripping wax and sealants but it doesn't always work out that way. My car had one coat of autobrite was on that was 5 weeks old. I used the new farecla clay mitt and even though the mitt removed all the contamination, the protection seems to be the same as before.
