Classic Cars- Bangers costing Cash

I would choose the front-engined Lotus Elan.
There’s a white one on someone’s drive in my village which hasn’t turned a wheel in a loooong time. I keep thinking of going to have a closer look whenever I’m between Zeds, but then I look at what good ones cost and realise there’s no point buying a knackered one. It was very striking when it first came out and always got good reviews. I recall Autocar (or another of the motoring mags) described it as the fastest point-to-point FWD car on the road.

A bit of a turnaround, I've gone and bought a 1978 Beetle Karman convertible.
1600cc of brute force 50bhp left hooker in it's original bronze colour.
Coincidentally the previous owner bought it from the Mathewson's auctions! I've even got the video review.
It really is in a lovely condition, totally different pace of life.
No road tax or need for an Mot and £92 fully comp insurance.
It's hilarious how many people pull up and want to talk about it, even had a cyclist stop next to me at the traffic lights waxing lyrical over it.
Yes Andy, I'll be able to see the heather :)

The steering wheel is on the wrong side, though.

Not my cup of tea but it does look smart. I like the wheels.

Unless you're going to the continent.
He sourced new optional extra wheels, very ocd about it, even cleaned the underside.
It's a good job we don't all like the same cars or we'd all be driving the same.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be, it's like driving a 50 year old car, oh wait 😐
