As soon as you choose the size I need (255/40 R17) there's only one result: Brisgestone RE050A. I have already checked their partner in Romania; they have more options, but still not the ones I'm looking for.

That's a strange size to be fair, which may explain your problem finding any!

I thought all the OE 17" wheels for Z4s ran 8J rims with 225/45 tyres all round, but if you have after-market wheels with wider rear rims I can see why you might want 255/40s. If they are any easier to find might 245/40s work?

The rims are original, the car came with them. That's why the size is listed on most tire shop websites when you choose the car model. But it does seem a rare size, I guess 17" rims are rare on this type of cars in general.

245/40 is not listed as a compatible tire size, and, although I'm sure it will work (I fitted regular 225/45 tires on the wide rims for the first winter, before I bought the second set of rims, and they worked), there are 2 issues with that: the overall wheel diameter will be smaller and I might have problems with passing the MOT equivalent test.

I decided to give up and take the risk with non-runflat tires. Will have to learn to drive with fingers crossed. :)

The best option I found at the moment is Michelin Pilot Sport 4, but only in XL version for the rear tires. Are the XL ok? Should I buy XL for the front also, or should I go with regular ones?
