Hi,

Just wondering if this oil is OK for a Z4 -> http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_categoryId_165581_productId_256977_langId_-1?cm_mmc=Shopping-_-Google%20Product%20Search-_-Car%20Care%20%26%20Maintenance%2FEngine%20Oils%20%26%20Additives%2FCar%20Engine%20Oil-_-Mobil%20Super%202000%20X1%2010W%2F40%20Oil%201L&source=shopping

or is fully synth absolutely required? Haven't been able to find much for searching for "mobil 1 super 2000" with Z4, hence the post.

Only use fully synthetic: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html

Make sure it meets the BMW spec as mentioned.

over here its LL01 spec for petrol BMW's and LL04 spec for the diesels. But you should always use fully synthetic.

the oil in your link is not mobil 1 - but mobil 1 is fully synthetic and what my BMW tech recommends (as the castrol oil is unavailable in Aus)

Thanks,

My local dealer said I need to buy Mobil 1 10W40, which as far as I can see doesn't currently exist as an offering from Mobil - hence why I think they may be using the oil I included in the first post.

I'll buy some fully synth 0W40 instead - thanks for your comments.

BMW recommend Castrol oils, so I don't know why they're promoting Mobil.

Ask your local dealer's parts department for their price for a 1 litre top-up of the oil for your car (they may ask for the last 7 digits of your VIN to give you an accurate response), but I'd be surprised if they didn't tell you that it's either Castrol Edge 5w30 or 0w40. Unless they've changed their preferred oil supplier (from Castrol to Mobil) - but then you'd surely have problems with what your owner's manual says the car needs and what BMW will sell you :headbang:

If they can get simple things like this wrong, you wonder what other simple things they'll screw up when servicing your car.

Imaging trying to get a warranty claim done on an engine, when you say it's been run on the correct LL04 Castrol oil for the last 5 years, and BMW say"'Ah sir, we only recommend Mobil 1 now!" :headbang:

Thats right BMW do recommend CASTROL, and yet i have two dealerships by me, one uses SHELL OILS , the one i bought my car from uses MOBIL , thats ESP 5/30, ITS A MYSTERY :headbang:
