ChipsAway quote - is this good?

Chipsaway are ok for small scuffs & repairs, get a body shop to paint your bumper. Mine is going in next week for front bumper to get painted, some stone chips & a couple of scuffs,£220.As for your wheels get them done by wheel specialist. They will bead blast them, repair any damage, powder coat primer & then wet paint colour, powder clear laquar. That way you get a tough smooth finish.

For comparison you should pay around £300/£350 at a pro bodyshop to remove bumper & fully prep & paint which is obviously a much better job 8)
Wheel wise they do offer the convenience of doing them quickly without you being days without car but if you want a pristine top notch job for not much more contact http://www.exelwheels.co.uk/

Thanks

You're welcome , many many guys off the 911uk forum use them with no issues . Be interesting to see if their of offer to loan "original" wheels will be set of 224's ?

I can fully recommend exelwheels.I got my wheels refurbed by them about 18 months ago and they came back in amazing condition.Chris is the name of the guy who owns the company, give him a call and discuss with him he is very helpful and nothing seems to be too much of a problem.I am sure he will give you good advice.

Excuse my naïveté but how is a wheel refurb done? What do they do to fill in the gaps/scratches :o ?
Chewing gum/blue tac and a light coating of silver spray....

Maybe I could save some pennies and have a go myself one afternoon.

there are plenty of vids floating around showing you how... ive seen some really good jobs done by people on their wheels using the stuff you get in halfords and a rattle can.

I had chips away spray my front wing on the MG, totally different colour. Also when they refurb wheels they don't even take them off the car, just mask the tyre up and spray with whatever silver paint they have on the van, I wouldn't bother.

I've had my bumper resprayed, £180 and a v good job, they took it off. went back three times though as they cracked a clip and routed the washer hose incorrectly.

does the bumper need any remedial work or is it a straight respray?

and I did have a wheel refurbed the way people are suggesting (tyre masked off) on my previous car, and it never looked great.

don't bmw do some sort of wheel refurb scheme?

I have white stone chips and one small scuff that just appeared out of nowhere. Is this what you are asking?

Ruby, I know a really good garage who will do the entire bumper, and need it for 2 days, very near the car wash you use,,,,,,they will charge less than £200. I need to take my car there too

My dealer's bodyshop is offering 2x for £100 ( £50 a wheel min 2 wheels )

Lets chat on Sunday (if you're still planning on coming to Windsor Meet)

Again same Dealer repaired small scuff and resprayed rear bumper for £230 after a Hertz car was reversed into it

Personally I always check with Dealer first surprising what they come up with

yep, didn't know if it was just stone chips or damage from running over a badger or something...i'd say £150-180.

Yes still coming and will let you know. My car needs to go in too, so we can go in together and leave the cars there. I trust them with my car

I'm starting to get the feeling I'm not going to do anything, or just stop washing the car myself so I don't see more stone chips etc. Judging from above comments seems like its going to add up to quite a lot to get things done properly plus I'm buying a house so car may have to wait. Nevertheless we can talk Sunday and you can let me know who these guys are.

Wouldn't recommend ChipsAway. Used them and the standard was pretty poor - ok for a touch up if you're going to sell on, but nowhere near as good as a proper respray as the colour wasn't consistent, orange peel, blow over and some dulling. They also quoted £200 for my bumper, I went with a proper paint shop who did it for £250.

Wheel refurbs, go on recommendations for a local specialist. I'm using a local guy who comes highly recommended by a couple of M3 owners I know, £85 per wheel for a total strip, fix, respray, polish and to take to tyres off and on, plus rebalancing.

Tapatalking...

I use a little back street place in Letchworth, do a full strip, and thir results are excellent, same day turnaround if booked in advance, and station just up the road.

Just don't go in and look around, will scare you to death, no HSE at all.
