Changing Tyres to Non-RF

Hi all,

I've finally decided to swap my Bridgeston run-flats for some non-runflats - partly due to the reduced cost and I am also looking a better ride as I find the M-Sport suspension I have very harsh with the run flats.

Am just looking for peoples views on this and advice from anyone who has done this (inc the tyres you went for and impressions!)

Currently I am thinking about the Michelin PS2's as have always had excellent experience with their tyres - however, they appear to do extra load and normal - anybody any idea which I should go for!

Thanks for the help

Alex

oooohhh yes, it's like driving a completely new car!!! I changed to Goodyear Eagles.... little bit cheaper than the Michelins, and better looking IMO. They do squeal a little whn you push them, but that's half the fun... magnificent in the rain too :D

Yep, I switched to Michelin PS2 several months ago, and wish I had done it sooner.

The ride quieted down, the tramlining decreased, and both the wet and dry traction increased tremendously.

Just carry a tire fill kit in the trunk and you'll be fine.

Do it ... DO IT NOW!

Did you get the extra load ones or not templed??

Tirerack didn't make the distinction other than by size for the PS2s when I bought mine and when you look at our size they don't list the XL as part of the description.

Having said that, I just looked at my tires and they do say "extra load" on the sidewalls.

Try on here... http://www.blackcircles.com/

There's also loads of reviews and information on the different makes of tyre all over Tinternet.

I changed to Goodyear Eagles after about 6 months of the runflats. The difference in the car is instantly amazing. I'd had the normal problems with tramlining and skidding about in the wet etc.

When I change this car to the next Z4 it'll be the first thing that gets done before I pick up the car.

Yeah, I have used them before... you simply order on the net, then select from one of the fitters in your area... you then just pitch up once the tyres are there and they fit them for you... piece of cake! :D

Changed to PS2s all round and felt the difference even driving away from the tyre fitters! Superb change in handling and the feel of the road and lack of tramlining and weirdness that the run flats tended to give. :D

hi skelters,i was looking for a quote from black circles for the goodyears for the back, the 255/35/18s but they dont do them... did you manage to get them from black circles and they may be out of stock?!!

I just switched over and purchased Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, 225/40-18 265/35-18 in rear w/ my spacers is a tad wider then stock and fills the wheelwell rather nicely..

What size spacers are you using? Any pics? Since Tire Rack is out of 255/35-18, I was thinking about going to 265/35-18. I've got a slow leak in my rear RFT and the dealer tried to plug it while the car was in for an oil change yesterday but the tire pressure warning came on before I went 20 miles. I was hoping it would last just a little longer than that at least until I got my Goodyears.

Everywhere is out of the 255/35-18's, that's what happened to my RFT's and couldn't find a replacement, so I switched to non and had the same problem w/ that size..I found someone who did get the 265's and didn't have any issues..I have 15mm spacer's in the rear..

Definitely looks killa.

That's a pretty big difference for staggered (225/265)... any issues with understeer?

Well - since we are prone to a small amount of understeer with the stock size rear tire, this will definitely increase that tendency.

True, but not that noticeable..

I got them from Kwik Fit as I knew the bloke there and they were the the only place that could remove the runflats.

Think it was £650 all in for the full set.

Also had to contact BMW and get them to OK it. They didn't recommend it but advised that it could be done at my own risk and to let the Insurance company know that I was changing over to less dangerous tyres.
