Changing the dash trim panel

Hi, I’ve been trying to find a guide on to change the interior dash trim, and gear stick surround trim, can someone point me in the right direction?

If one doesn’t exist, is it possible to change the dash trim or is a complicated affair that is likely to cause more damage, than good.

some will say its easy, but I suppose its a case of anything gets easier the more times you do it.
I watched number5 do some of the trim change on mine, and there is a fair bit to do.
depends how practical you are, I am not.

Pretty handy myself, but I also know sometimes once u take something off, it never quite goes back on as perfect as it should be, just wondering if I should buy a Z4 with a trim panel I’m not keen on, and then replace it once I have.

On the E89 the centre panel around the gearstick will come out fairly easily with a couple of trim tools. It only needs the gearstick and surround removed and then it can be prised out starting at the arm rest end. All the electrics are screwed on from underneath so these must be unclipped before completely removing.
The dash panel is a bit more complicated and needs the stereo and other covers removed first to enable access to the screws that hold it in place.
Take a look at the link below for a bit more info, just find your model and search through the info

Just took mine apart this weekend. It got a bit fiddly half way through, but only took 20-30 minutes from start to end. I’m not mechanical wiz and found the task far less daunting once i’d got started

I used this guide, not for my model of e85 but all the steps were exactly the same

How long did it take to get out? I want to wrap or repaint mine because 1. Its' ghastly and 2. It's an 03 so has lots of dings and scratches.

Id allow at least an hour to take out and the same to put back in start to finish for the centre console, once you know what you're doing and about 30 mins for the dash pieces. However, detaching the trim from the under-side of the centre console is another ball-ache with about 30 screws involved.

Give your self a half day and you should crack it.
