Changing peoples reaction on Mobile Phone Photos

I am concerned that Google and others have introduced facilities where you can change people's reaction and expression on mobile phone photos from example a sour expression to a smiling expression. This is falsifying reality. You can also delete the background to put you into another Country or location. To me it is a side path that is 100% wrong and in some cases typifies the unreal world that some teenagers live in.

Does anyone have experience of this from their children or Grandchildren using this technology and liking it, or do you yourself feel that it 'cleans up' a photograph to make it better? I would be interested to know.

Photoshop has been "falsifying reality" for decades. Now, with social media a smart phones, there is no skill needed to do it, and it can literally be broadcast worldwide.

You've said you're concerned, but what is your concern? To you it's 100% wrong, but is that what everyone else thinks?

It's an interesting question, so please expand on why you think it's wrong, and what you feel the consequences can be?

My grandad told me: believe none of what you read, none of what you hear and only half of what you see.
Provided you approach these things with a degree of caution and cynicism you should be fine

‘Touching-up’ photos has been around for as long as photography has existed.

We were doing it to 35mm & 65mm slides with paintbrushes & scalpels.

It’s just easier to do it, and everyone tries to outdo everyone else to show how ‘perfect’ their fake lives are…so I just don’t bother with ‘socials’.

What I think is wrong is what I wrote, "I am concerned that Google and others have introduced facilities where you can change people's reaction and expression on mobile phone photos from example a sour expression to a smiling expression. This is falsifying reality. You can also delete the background to put you into another Country or location" I have never had a problem with touching up photos or colourising, and have used Photoshop many times. The consequences as I see it is that young people are so influenced by Social Media that a lot of them feel pressurised to 'fit in' and when you can easily change facial expressions and locations on a photo you really are altering the moment that it was taken and it is a bit of a lie. I am well aware that 'models' and others have been 'photoshopped' in the past but this has been frowned upon as it gives a false impression of what people really look like. We get spots on our faces at some time, cold sores or whatever and to remove these for a 'phone photo' is just worrying. You ask is that what everyone else thinks? That is what I asked in my last paragraph. Don't lose sight of what I said, I am talking about changing a frown to smile and locations.

The camera never lies - should be the camera never used to lie !

Ez’s Grandfather was ahead of his times when he told him

We must take note that our image, data, speech is being used and corrupted,
Tech progress for most of us is an opportunity to defraud for some!

Phone photos are no doubt better than they were a few years back.
But no amount of software trickery in the phone will increase the quality to match a proper camera.

As far as falsifying is concerned, yes a little bit of photoshop to remove a piece of litter or even touch up a stone chip is one thing, but changing the sky or colour of the car is different

It's AI. Get used to it, it is going to be happening everywhere.

Soon we will have no idea what is real and what isn't. TBH I've had that problem for a while, but always blamed the booze!

Post reported as I suspect this is not a real person.

One of the handiest tools now is being able to reverse image and find out the real origin of an image. I suspect even that will be able to be faked soon.

Watching GBnews the other day and on of their tech geeks was showing what appeared to be a video of Nigel Farage being displayed on Big Ben. In the foreground was what appeared to be a crowd of people recording it on their iphones as if it was really happening live.

It was all deep fake, even the people appearing to be recording it. Scary stuff
