Changing Brakes..need a bit of advice?

Hi all,

just ordered some ebc discs and redstuff pads, going change them at the weekend. Does anyone know if the caliper needs removing to change the discs? if so I will put new caliper mounting bolts back on and wondered if anyone knew the torque settings.

Sorry if this is a daft or common question, couldn't find anything in search. Any other bits of advice if anyone has done this themselves is appreciated. :D

Thanks in advance
Chris

Yep. Calipers need to come off via the carrier bolts. Don't think you'll need to replace them tho as they are kept pretty well due to the caps behind.

Chris -no such thing as a daft question.

Yes - the calipers must be removed to change the rotors. They are held on with 2 hex headed slider bolts (concealed under rubber covers). No need for new bolts and can't recall the torque but very tight with a hand wrench (I've been doing stuff so long I use 'feel' too much).

Are you doing all 4? If so you really need to read up on doing the rears and how to loosen the handbrake shoes through the access hole resetting them and then breaking in of those shoes.

You'll need to consider a G clamp or wind back tool for the calipers and take care of brake fluid levels thoughout.

Ask away if you have supplemental questions

Thanks for the advice guys, only doing fronts so have time to do my research before attempting the rears.

Thanks again

Chris :)

figures are for 2003 3.0, you will have to let me know if yours is a different model.

Brake Caliper to Carrier = 30nm front
Brake Caliper Carrier to Hub = 110nm front

Brake Caliper to Carrier = 30nm rear
Brake Caliper Carrier to Hub = 65nm rear
