Changing brake fluid?

Hi all,

i want to change the brake fluid in my car as I doubt its been done in the past few years. It looks like a fairly simple DIY task, is it?

I've read that I need to empty the brake fluid through the reservoir under the boot (with a syringe or something similar) and then top it up with new stuff. How do i ensure i get all the fluid out and there isnt any left in the pipes etc?

Once topped up, i need to bleed a valve on each calliper, i do this by opening it and pumping the break medal?, has anyone got a picture of these valves so i know what i'm looking for?

Final question, does anyone have any recommendations on a specific fluid or is it all fairly bog standard stuff? How much is the fluid to buy?

Easy go buy a esbleed kit from halfords and the brake fluid you want to put in, walk in the park .just follow instructions on the can. :thumbsup:
 
Break fluid change for BMWs is a timescheduled service item - every two years so y coming up to its 3rd change. As Tino - the Halfords Easy Bleed is a good tool to use. Do a 'YouTube' search and there are several 'videos' explaining how to change brake fluid. As for capacity you will probably need about 1.5 litres to flush thoough the old fluid and refill with new.

The bleed valve is part number 5 on the link picture with a rubber cover (part number 4)
