Changing Alloys

So I am contemplating changing the alloys on my Z soon and was wondering if there is much benefit in going up to say 18" from the OEM 17" or just getting some new 17" alloys.

I did find a nice set of 19" ones however not sure if they will affect performance too much going up to that size?

I've gone to 18s recently, tyres aren't properly scrubbed in and set yet but I'd say so far slightly more grip and slightly more tramlining.

Main reason is the look, Zs look much nicer with nicely filled arches from 18" wheels.

Yeah I am contemplating the change for the look also.

Just wondered what was better to go to size wise and any effects when doing so :)

You will have far more ride comfort with 17" wheels as for grip i cant see how wheel diameter will make much if any difference? Wheel width will though. Like Ste says its mostly about looks with bigger wheels. The bigger the wheels the more your tyres will cost witch might be worth thinking about £18" seem reasonable but 19" are quite pricey.

Yeah that's more to do with the decent tyres, although my 18s are slightly wider and staggered which will help

What're yours Mat, looked rather large when seeing the car?

Are you going to the windsor meet on sunday? Can see tip fit yourself then if you are :)

Mine are 19" and an m wheel so the offset pushes the rim right out into the arch.

I am not sure i have a few things i have to get done to my car this weekend. And i am at a wedding Saturday so might have a bit of a hangover/ not safe to drive first thing!

So I'll see you there then ;)

Think I might look at 18's if I can find a nice pair

Toying with the idea of these at present: http://www.rimstyle.com/alloywheels/detail/?car_model_id=227&specs=QUVWQUwtRDE4LVc4MC1QNTEyMC1FMzAtR0JQT2xBRVZBTC1EMTgtVzgwLVA1MTIwLUUzMC1HQlBPbDE4bDguMDBsOC4wMGw1bDEyMGxsMzBsMzBsRGxEbGxsbDM0bDM0bDc1NS4wMGwxODguNzVsMTg4Ljc1bDE4OC43NWwxODguNzU=

Not sure how they would look on the car though :|

My advice would be to find some nice BMW wheels  E46 m3 wheels are nice and cheap as the m3 boys don't like them and want the 19" ones.

Can look into such a suggestion Mat, not sure what fits and what doesn't in terms of bmw wheels :D

If you decide to go for replicas or non OEM, take a look here:

..... and then you can check out http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/bmw_alloy_wheels/z4_e85_alloys for OEM wheels.

..... and http://www.willtheyfit.com for offset, width fitment and effect on speedo in relation to your current wheels.

Good luck searching.
