Center Console Ashtray lid not closing

Hi All,

I have a BMW Z4 E89 2014 model. The Center Console Ashtray Lid is not closing, and replacements seem very expensive on eBay. On suggestions on how to fix it or what to check? Thanks

Check the pic in this thread, it may be the problem.
The small pin can become dislodged and tge lid won't stay closed.
The centre console trim has to be removed to fix as the ashtray is screwed on from the underside.

Having had 2 89s, both with rather 'unreliable' ashtray lid closing actions, I would just get some used chewing gum, or blue tack (chewing gum smells nicer).
They are not the best engineered things in the world IME.

Also having 2 E89s over a period of 11 years both ashtrays have been perfectly fine and work problem free.
Some people are maybe heavy handed and slam them shut.
A bit like people who slam bonnets and bootlids from the highest height possible, totally unnecessary.

PS Don't be put off by the price; it is in Danish Krone. There are around 10 to a UKP or Euro.
