Hi all, I've got an 03, 3.0 z4. My central locking has developed a mind of it's own. When driving along it opens both doors then closes them again. Sometimes it's happening all the time then it can go for weeks and not do it. If the heating is set to 24c + then this seems to make the problem worst, today I went back outside (after I had just been out in the car) to find that the central locking was going on and off on the drive. I have scoured the internet but I am really struggling with this one any help would be appreciated. I can't imagine this is doing the central locking any good constantly going off.

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere, check the centre console door locking switch!
Maybe unplug it and see If that cures the problem!

Right then sorry to bring back an old post but removing the hazard/ central locking switch from the car hasn't worked. On the way to work today the central locking was going off constantly, both door locks constantly opening and closeing. This is doing my head in now if anybody can point me in the write direction it would be appresheated.
I had a similar fault on my first BMW Mini convertible (2004) which uses a lot of similar components, it turned out to be a fault with the module It's not uncommon on BMW/Mini models, although mine was replaced under warranty I'm told cleaning and securing the connections is worth a try first and certainly worth locating the GM5 module to check it out. http://www.bmwgm5.com/GM5_Z4_Removal.htm
However it's more likely the relays in the module and there are specialists that can refurbish the GM5 for £100-£120 as opposed to BMW at nearer £500 for the part. or you can apparently replace the relays yourself http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&p=1020582
Thinking about it I had the same on my Merc SLK which used to fire off the locking all night and run the battery down, also the module.

I suggest you contact mac27040 as he is only about 20 miles from you. I know he has the software and knows how to use better than most
Finally bottomed the problem took the car to this chap http://bmwgm5.info/ 120 miles each way for me but was well worth the drive. After a test drive and some diagnostics he diagnosed a faulty GM5 Modula. Something had failed in the module so that manual on/off switch in the cabin was always on causing the doors to lock. He fitted a second hand GM5, coded it to the car and fitted two new relays in it.
As he had the GM5 out he programmed it for me so now both locks open when you press the open button, the car doesn't lock it's self when going over 10MPH. For some reason the one touch button on the passenger side had been disabled that now works and best of all I can open and close my hood with the key
You just hold the open button down and the roof will open too, All that for £120 (not including petrol) I was very impressed with the chap he was very knowledgeable on BMW electronics. As a bonus the car averaged 37 to the gallon, that seems half decent for a 3.0L cruising at 70-80. Sorry I mean 70
