CDV the good news and bad news

There are oil leaks, and leaky patches of oil.
Is it just something around the sump plug, sump sensor, leaking down the block from the head?
Loads of possibilities before I'd be worrying. What is most important is tracking it down and knowing what it is, than having some oily patches per se.
Is the garage just looking for work?
BMW keep telling me about my rear diff outputs being a bit oily. Seals going, VERY slowly, but there is never a drop of fresh looking oil anywhere under the car when I go under it.

I use a trolly jack under the N/S rear jack point, jack car so you can slide an Axle stand under the N/S front jack point, then gently lower the car onto it, once the car is resting on it I let the jack sit still supporting up the rear. Safer and simples.

Thanks was not sure on it location thanks for the heads up , will have a little forum search on this on a how-to sounds like next weekends mod, everyone raves about it so I think I take a dip

Unlike others, I didn't find that removing the clutch delay value specifically improved the notchiness of the 1st to 2nd gear change. In fact, it seems that it's a recognosed "characteristic" of the gearbox. The CDV acts as a choke in the clutch hydraulics that moderates the speed at which the clutch engages when the pedal is released. This lessens the severity of clutch engagement making driving easier for those not habitually driving manuals (mainly the US market).
The single benefit that I've noticed after CDV removal is that swift gear changes where rapid clutch disengagement then reengagement are necessary are much smoother (eg full attack upshifts, or when rapidly serially double declutching from high speed to enter a low speed corner). The clutch immediately responds to pedal movement in both directions, instead of just pedal depression (where foot power easily overcomes the choke effect). I haven't found the difference to be particularly noticable in day to day driving, but it most definitely sharpens things up when driving quickly
As for the oil leak, mine has never used a drop of oil no matter how hard it's driven. If you're worried, I would put an unfolded cardboard box underneath next time you park and see if any oil drips can be seen in the morning.
I found removing the CDV to make a big improvement in day to day driving, have not made the car kangaroo hop while changing gears since (not that it happened often, but sometimes when you forget lol). but my daily driving style may be more aggressive than others on here.
When I removed the CDV it had no cover over it at all... Just crawled under, in the centre of the car just behind the wheels and there it was... just reached up with my spanners and ripped that thing out... so Paza - its free if you can get under your car!
