Cayman S

I borrowed one of these yesterday for a couple of hours and was surprised at how much quicker it felt than my 3.0. On paper they're not that different but it certainly felt (whisper it) faster, more responsive, more urgent and much harder. It wasn't all sweetness and light, however, as specification was not as good and brakes were shocking...it was only 800 miles from needing a service, though. It also had a few annoying rattles and squeaks, which you really don't need as the sound of the engine howl is mesmerising! But it's still not such a stunning looking car as the Z! Just my thoughts...
 
Well it should feel faster and more agressive really being an S as it is meant to compete with the M. The standard caymen is more comparible had a drive of one when looking for my M and :thumbsdown: just boring, the S makes things a bit more interesting tho. Liked the S a lot, but not as much as the M and there were about 5k more than the M at the time of buying so M it was :thumbsup:
 
I thought the cayman s threw out over 300 BHP how is that comparable to a 3.0 Z? It's more comparable to my 35i and personally I'd expect the z4m coupe to murder the cayman s unless it's the very latest engine in the cayman s which is more powerful still.
 
3.2 or 3.4? Ive driven them in Boxster form lately and they feel bloody brilliant. So composed and fluid.

They make a 3.0 Z4 seem too harsh and slow and an M seem a bit of a dumb thug IMO. Still love the M though for exactly what it is :D

Thats what BMW go for with the Ms wavy tale maniacs the dumb thug is a good description, they are more fun to drive Clarkson summed it up when he reviewed the 1M and made it car of the year on his DVD last year. Although I love the porsches they are a little too precise. Would still buy one tho. Not a Caymen tho its bigger brother love them :)
 
I'm quite surprised...

I tried a Cayman S when I had my 3.0si Coupe, and found it incredibly boring; both to drive and to sit in.

No doubt it was due to it being extremely competent, and far better at covering ground than the Z4... It just bored me though.
 
I've not actually driven the latest Cayman S, but I have driven the older one and its big brother a Carrera 4s. Cayman IMHO handled like a dream, but I found the engine a bit flat in its power delivery, I like surges :). The Carrera 4s was really lovely but felt very heavy and didn't quite feel the money it commanded.

Still happy with the 35i, gives me all I want right now for lots less to run than a Porsche, just perhaps doesn't have the badge kudos, which I'm not that fussed about anyhow, just want a nice looking fast car.

If someone felt the need to chop 20K off a new Cayman S tho, I'd take a look :)
 
Although I am clearly biased, I have to say the Cayman S is a wonderfully involving car.

It is an event every time I get in it to drive. I love it's looks, it's sound and its performance. Having the engine right behind your seat increases the feeling of power pushing you forward. I love it.

My Z will always be in my heart, and wins hands down in this weather which is why I choose to drive it when the sun is out, the Cayman S is an amazing machine that handles unlike any other car I have driven.

Horses for courses, if we all loved the same thing life would be dull.

I doubt many would regret a move from any model of Z to a Cayman S.

I can't remember, did I mention I was biased............
