Cat & Fiddle/Castleton Run

Having been overseas for a week and weather before that being useless I hadn't had chance to have a good run in the MR

Got up this morning and weather looked decent so signs were looking good :D

That was until I tried to start the car and the **** had a flat battery :headbang: From fully charged to flat within 2 weeks of no use!!! :x

An hour charge and we were ready to go. Not been over Cat & Fiddle for years :driving: - last time was in my WRX in 2002 and was I in for a surprise

I was aware that they had put cameras on part of the road but couldn't imagine how it has changed the drive

How to totally destroy a fantastic driving road in one easy move. Went all the way up at 45mph behind George & Mildred on a 'Sunday morning run'

No laybys to ensure you can't stop and have a blast between cameras - also meant I couldn't stop to take some photos with a stunning back drop.

Don't get me wrong, I know that this has been caused by total maniac drivers and bikers but it has taken all the enjoyment out of the road. 50 mph seems somewhat pedestrian on this road.

We decided to go back via Castleton and took some pics while driving and parked up.

Any suggestion for better driving roads in Peak District and Yorkshire?? Must be some good roads that haven't been totally ****** up by the PC brigade

Well at least you got a few nice pics. It is a shame and hopefully not a taste of things to come.

Hope you find some more fun routes next time

You can always get a good run over the woodhead and snake if you choose your times.. Dunford bridge to holmfirth is good..

Buxton to Ashbourne is good,A515 I think it is..

Car looks good Graham, but you need to get the roof down button fixed.. :poke:

Anyhoo, have a look at this run, make your way to Owler Bar, head for Baslow and then take the Chatsworth turn then turn immeadiately right for Bakewell up 13 bends, at the top of the hill turn right for Ashford and Buxton, pick the A6 for Buxton up after Ashford village, keep to the Manchester signs in Buxton and once through Dove Holes you could carry on to Glossop and then pick the Manchester to Sheffield road up, the A47 I think it is, or turn right for Chesterfield, past Tideswell and it'll bring you out to Calver traffic lights, turn left for Sheffield then right up Froggatt edge to the top, right again and you'll end up back at Owler Bar and to home. I don't know about the Glossop and A47 section but the other route there is 'I think' just 1 speed camera coming out of Buxton or none atall the whole route. Loads of flowing sweeping bends and straights, and a nice pub, The Grouse Inn at the top of Froggatt edge if you feel like a sarni.

John

Thanks for the tip. Will make this my next run!! :driving:

The roof lower button works fine but seems to be on a timer of about 2 mins.

After this time I seem to get ear ache and a pain in the arse.

Unfortunately it all comes from the passenger seat  ' It's too windy, I'm cold' !!!!! :x

Will have a look at these drives.

I think that Snake also has speed camera's now - just spoils the drive :headbang:

I'm away at the moment mate but I'll PM you some details of my routes, I don't bother with the Peak District now for the reasons you listed. Fed up of driving 30+ miles to get a short stretch of road that doesn't have speed cameras / plod / old Dorris / cyclists / ramblers etc etc.
