Folks
I'm viewing the following car the weekend and need advice on what's a fair price its on a 2007 plate

• 3.0si (265bhp)
• 6 Speed Manual
• Metallic blue
• 18,900 very genuine miles - condition reflects

• Full BMW service history - Woods BMW
• Will be supplied with 12 months MOT
• New Bosch Battery
• Nearly spotless UN-refurbed 18" Split-Rim alloys with very decent Bridgestone Potenzers

HIGH SPECIFICATION:
> Sat Nav - Upgraded Firmware and 2013 disc
> Twin Xenon Headlights
> Parking Sensors
> Heated Seats
> Both Seats are Electric with drivers memory
> Cruise Control
> Climate Control - Aircon
> Steering wheel controls
> Electric windows
> Auto lights
> Auto Dimming Mirror
> Auto Wipers
> Trip computer
> Business CD Player
> Steering wheel reach and rake adjustment
> Power assisted steering
> Remote Central Locking
> Thatcham Alarm / Immobiliser
> Front and rear fog lights
> Tailored mats
> Cup Holders - Yes this is an extra (most don't have)

The asking price is just under £10000

Details of the categorised claim would be helpful , other than miles being low thats pretty much the going rate for a non Cat car so i would be wanting to pay a good lump below or why bother taking the punt ?

The rework might have been absolutely perfect, but It'll be a real chore to sell again...worth £6k max in reality.

x2

but at the right price with full details including photos of the damage could be a cheap way into Z4 ownership.

Just had a look at the AD for this on E-Bay
States Xenon headlight but not got headlamp washers (has it got all the self levelling gubbins?)
Thought that was standard with Xenon’s don’t know if it’s a thing or not to be honest but would make me look twice
Also states no finance available again might be a CAT D thing
Might well be a lovely car and faultless but Cat D will make any buyer pause for thought and what’s the insurance hit on CAT D

been out of the motor trade a long time(20 years) but it looks like the sort of money you would pay for a non accident damages example to be honest. if it was 6 to 7k and I was going to run it for 5 or more years would think about it. other than that walk away (only my opinion)

So the repair has been done on the cheap. The LCM is xenon which probably means the car has factory xenons. So that means replacement bumper was sourced used without the washer gubbins.

MOT failure straight away. Does look quite a nice car, but that repair would put doubt in my mind, and it's priced too high.

Many thanks for the advise. I will let this one go, the more I read about cat d's the more I realise its all to easy to get a dud. Looks like I will just keep my eyes peeled, only a matter of time until the right one comes up.

Agree that this is strong money for a cat D so why take the risk when there are plenty more out there.

Out of interest does anyone know the reason for the washers being so important on Xenon cars as opposed to halogen fitment?

I get the logic around the self levelling mechanisms but was just wondering about the washers.

I can't see any logic on the washer as they for sod all. Add in wipe as I had on my old cavalier Sri and then it's a different story, as they stayed clean.

A cat d bought by someone to fix up as cheaply as pos and and then sold for as much as possible is Never going to be a bargain, is Never going to be easy to sell on , and The extent of the damage and / or repairs Are 100% guaranteed to be understated !!! Best save up for a right one unless it is 60 % of the price of an undamaged example.

Ha ha yes as I always drive with my sides on I find myself waiting to wash the window until I'm doing over 40mph so that the wind force might at least move some muck off the lights.

Can't see why people are so afraid of cat c/cat d vehicles?... there are some real bargains to be had out there!. If you know what you're doing then go for it. It can be written off for something as daft as a bit of panel damage.

hi the problems people put up about cat d is not all correct its all about doing your home work as with all cars, there are a lot of cars around that have been in a bump but not recorded, i have owned 2 cat d cars the one i had for 4 years a low mileage x type jaguar brought it a couple of grand cheaper, never had any trouble with insurance never had any problems, and when i sold it (it was advertized as a cat d that you dont have to declare as a private seller) got the same price as any other xtype the same year if you buy one and sell it in a short time then you might have a problem but there again buy any car and sell it in a short time and you are onto a loser, buy a good one cheap keep a while and you wont go far wrong :D
