Cargo area partition hinge broken

Went to lift the cargo area partition and fold it back and found the left side hanging loose - the top of the plastic hinge had come off! There appears to be 3 pegs that go through the shelf and mate with their counterparts in the other part of the hinge below - not sure how they're suppose to join together. Anyone experienced this?

Yes. Has mine fixed under warranty. There is an e89 forum post also where a guy just put some self tappers in to fix it.

Just been into by Dealer who, after contacting BMW, are prepared to do it under my extended warranty - it wouldn't normally be covered as it is classed as 'trim'. According to our USA equivalent forum, it's a VERY common failure & requires the whole assembly to be replaced @ over $200!

planned a trip to France, weather was forecast as awful, but low and behold, the weatherman was wrong…… Great thought I.

ON arrival in France (straight off the tunnel) sun shining, so top down……. and as I touched the cargo partition, the hinge broke……. real PITA.

Now back in blighty, so off to BMW to see if they will fix it under warranty - I will ask why they make them out of chocolate - as it's not a good material for hot weather.

Does it affect the roof opening/closing in any way? i.e. thauma - although it broke when you got to France, were you still able to operate the roof with the hinge broken?

Hi Guys,

Mine broke two weeks ago. I enquired at BMW and was told the (very cheap) plastic clamp doesn't have a separate part number so the whole partition needs to be replaced. As I'm out of warranty I didn't even ask for the price. Looks like I'll be taking the self tapper option as well
