Carbuyer MX5-RF Review

Always like their no-nonsence reviews.

When I first saw the car at the Mazda press launch I thought it looked stunning, maybe it was aluminium colour but in the red maybe no so much. The more I look at it from some angles, rear three quarter it sits a little oddly, it definitely needs some slightly larger alloys than the 16s, maybe 17s but I guess Mazda went for smaller wheels for a reason and I really don't like the exposed metal on the interior of the doors, it just looks cheap. Would like a drive of one though.

it has some very odd shapes, from some angles it looks alright, others it looks too tall - the roof line that is.

maybe with some lowering.. :o

From a design point of view there is too much going on.

Its like they have taken the best elements of classic sportscar design and blended them together with a sledgehammer without much thought of the relationship. Created a very disjointed look. Its like it has to be seen at a specific angle to look the way intended.

It has round sloping bodywork that then bluntly end into a very sharp edge.

For example

Looks fantastic. But looks nothing like that 99.9% of the time.

. . . this is a stunning pic, but as you say I doubt it lives up to this in the flesh.

I enjoyed the review cheers Tim  one thing - that boot space is tiny! I reckon us Z4 roadster owners sometimes don't realise just how generous our boot space is.

Saw a white one on the road last week and thought it looked crap from the side (with roof up).

My Z3s boot was larger than the MX5s which put me off the 5 somewhat, I think I would still like to own one at some stage :)
