Carbon induction kit

Most likely for the 3.0i in his signature, at a guess.

I had a simota induction kit in my? 3.0i. The oiled air filter caused issues with my maf sensor, giving me a flatspot at 1500rom and a lump idle, so I would advise against fitting any oiled filter.
 
My flatspots with the Simota was not caused by oiled filters, but solely down to the ECU not being mapped for it and didn't know what to do with the extra air.

Can't say the same for the Gruppe-M though, as I had 3 MAFs over the 40,000 miles I had it fitted.

My guess is that they both really need mapping to make the most of it - so will be (eventually) going for a proper CSL-style carbon airbox & alpha-N.

Interesting what you say about the MAFs I have had two of these (simota) in an e36 328i and z3 2.8 never had any issues and over 50k between them. Are the M54 engines more sensitive?

The Z4M part number only shows as being used in 3.2 S54 and V10 S85 engined vehicles (e46 M3, e60 M5, e63 M6, Z4M, late Z3M).

Maybe the Z4M ECU is more picky than the e46, as it moved on from the MSS54 (in the e46) to the MSS70 (as used in the M5/M6) to give better emissions control - so maybe the intakes are built on the assumption that the S54 engines all use the same ECU and will adapt the same...and it doesn't in some cars?
