Carbon Fibre Wing Mirrors

Hello all,

Recently I have been making some changes to my Z4 and thought I'd let you know of the latest change, in case anyone is looking for some ideas!

I removed the wing mirrors, disassembled them to release the plastic shell and wrapped them in carbon fibre vinyl. Some people may find this cheap/tacky and I see where you are coming from, but I felt the stock mirrors looked a little boring. Wrapping the mirrors was quite a mission and took about 3 hours from taking them off to finally getting them back on.

I have attached some images to show you the before and after, but I will wait for daylight to get a shot of the car!

Please let me know if you have any questions. As you may see, there was some slight creasing on the sharp bend of the mirror, and therefore I may re-attempt it at a later stage. To be fair, it may be easier to do whilst the mirrors are on the car.

Have done mine as well, just think it add a little originality and looks good

I think they look quite good, however the fact that the "grain" goes in opposing directions upsets me a lot

I agree with the grain direction not matching, to be honest I only noticed once I'd finished and couldn't be bothered to re-do it...

Could anyone give me an idea of how much it costs to have them hydro-dipped?

i like them and am tempted to do mine, at least with the wrap its fully reversible!

what sort of base coat does the hydro dipping need? i ask as my drivers side mirror has a small gouge from a bus thinking it could fit past me down a small country lane (didn't have time to turn around chase the bus driver ) its only a very small mark but i assume it would affect the carbon pattern on the hydro dipping?

i've the carbon covers on mine, they're /ok/ but obviously you can still see grey when looking at the mirror where the cover doesn't come over and wrap around...which irks me

Just fill and sand the area around the gouge and it shouldn't be noticeable

You're only dipping the case, not the whole car
