Hi Guys,
Looking for some advice on an issue that occurred over the weekend.
I was parked on a steep hill and got in the car, stupidly forgetting to put my foot on the clutch (dont ask why) I started the car in reverse gear with my foot on the brake. So the car was fighting a stall and the brakes. Anyway after stressing for a moment I attempted to start again (foot on clutch this time) and it just about started.
I drove up to my sisters house (car seemed to run fine but I didn't check the dash for lights) parked up and came out 2 hours later. The car wouldn't start. It wouldn't crank and all that could be heard was a slight click of what I assume was the starter motor. I tried a few more times and then the clicking stopped on ignition. Called the AA out (local garage came) and we tried to roll start it by rolling the car down the hill and flick the clutch in 2nd gear. But still nothing, maybe I wasn't carrying enough speed? Tried a few things and put a code reader in it but she told me there were no codes, but I don't really understand why as by this point I noticed the lights on the dash. Picture 1 attached is with Battery (red), Oil pressure (Red), EML and Exhaust system both in orange.
The battery is at 11.96V so no issue there and the connection looks good, the fuses under the bonnet all look fine and not blown.
My thoughts are it could be:
- Knackered starter
- Another sensor as the EML light is on with ignition suggesting the ECU knows theres and issue (crank sensor? immobiliser?)
- Maybe ECU shat itself?
- Some sort of electrical gremlin
- loose Earthing somewhere?
I know a stall can bring up dash lights and then once it's run normally again everything is fine but this feels a bit permanent. I plan to get a code reader of my own on it and was considering getting the starter motor refurbed but not sure if this will solve everything? Just feels a bit strange that the car started after the stall and then when I tried to start it the next time, nothing.
Sat in the car today to try diagnose further and push the accelerator and close the door a couple times and a few more random lights came on (ABS, tyre pressure sensor etc. PIC 2) which seems really odd.
Any experience in a similar situation or advice would be greatly appreciated as I need her back on the road ASAP but I like to carry out the work myself.
