Car security advice needed.

I pick my Z up tomorrow :driving: and have been looking at some extra security like steering locks.

Can anyone advise a decent steering lock, or extra layer of security, that they use please?

I've looked at a few but the majority have reviews that show a lot of wear on the steering wheel. E.g. Milenco and Stoplock steering wheel locks.

I've owned a full cover wheel lock in the past but they are a pain in the backside for storing and fitting.

Thanks

Why not look at the immobilisers that require you to press 3-4 buttons before you can start the car. You can choose the buttons (steering wheel buttons) and sequence and much less faf than a steering wheel lock.

Auto watch ghost is the one I’m thinking about.

You guys should be aware that most thieves can remove those physical stop lock and wheel lock things in seconds and they are useless in stopping "professional" thieves - although they may prevent joyriders. A common one, if they really want the car, is to saw the steering wheel itself to remove the lock. They will have access to people who can provide replacements, or if it's being stolen for parts, they just wont get anything for the steering wheel.

That said, I use a lock myself too although I am aware of their limitations.

I bought a tracker for mine, obviously it can’t stop the car from being stolen but it will send you a text if it detects movement or vibration and you can hopefully locate it quickly and get it back

GPS TRACKER iTrack GPS 311 MICRO VEHICLE CAR VAN FLEET BIKE TRACKING DEVICE
O2 SIM * FREE LIVE TRACK * WATERPROOF * REMOTE CONTROL

Bought mine through eBay it’s is very economical to use only 2p per text and you can also do live gprs tracking in real time, it’s also handy if you forget where you parked it 😁

Chippie, Thanks for the heads up.
Just ordered one. Free with Necter points :)

Is it an easy straight forward fit ?

Not too difficult to install and setup, there is an app you can download which is useful.
There are also 3 settings of sensitivity for the motion sensor, I had it set to one but it’s a little too sensitive and had a couple of false alarms so now have it set to the middle setting, you can pm me if you need any help/ advice on using it

You could just hardwire an old iPhone into the car and hide it. If your cars nicked just use 'find my phone'.

In my experience, a tracker can be a nuisance: annual fees, what was a luxury becomes an insurance necessity, flat battery; and how many Z4s are stolen, anyway?

The iTrack GPS 311 MICRO dose not have any annual fee for the 1st 10 years, there’s just the £55 purchase price and a £5 o2 top up which should last around a year depending on use, you just have to remember to send and receive a text at least once every 6 months to keep the SIM card active, you will also need an unlocked or o2 phone to activate the Sim Also make sure to set up an 02 account to enable you top it up again without having to put the SIM back in a phone

20i auto. Been swamped with work so not had chance to clean/take pics or even have a proper drive. Just washed her :D .

Here are two fresh pics. I'll get one of the inside after I've cleaned that.
