Car Insurance

Hello all !
I am in a really bad situation: My partner had two small accidents since last June and hasn't claim anything for himself. The insurance (Budget Insurance) is now telling us that they have paid for the damages of the other cars (a little bump on a door and a bumper) and that we have to pay them £450 a month for one year. They also say that we cannot change insurance until we have paid the whole amount. Is that true ? It is a ridiculous money that we are not able to pay! What can we do? Is there a solution to put down the price? Why is it not allowed to change insurance?
I hope someone has some solutions or tricks !!!
thank you so much for all your suggestions and answers.....

So these two accidents have been under the current years insurance?

As far as i am aware they can only put the premium up the following year, at which point you can look elsewhere

+1. Or they can cancel your policy. One post though... :?

I'm confused... what is the £450 pm for? Is this including your premium instalment? Is it your excess that they are putting on a payment plan? Or have they discovered something that you did not declare on taking out the insurance that they have applied a Mid Term Adjustment to cover? If he's had 2 accidents since last June then your policy has been running since June 12 & so there are only 2 months left on it until expiry so how can they make you pay for a year? They cannot make you renew a policy. Something doesn't sound right about this... have you included everything in your post or is there something you aren't telling us?

You really don't want to end up with them cancelling your policy though... you'll have to declare that every time you take out another policy which will result in not getting quotes or only being able to get insurance which are loaded to provide extortionate premiums!

What a peculiar post

Maybe they were insured tpft and thats the cost of repairs factored in?

Even TPFT covers the other car. Even third party would have done. That's what insurance is for.

Yes the posting is a bit strange but after checking, the OP appears to be a human in the UK (rather than a spambot) so decided to leave it up.

Although she'll probably start selling kitchens overnight to make me wish I had deleted the post

I wonder if the what happened was the op failed to tell insurance about accidents in previous policy. Policy has subsequently renewed at cheaper rate and now claims have against previous years policy. This could result in a recalculation of current years premium as op failed to declare the accident. I suspect the insurance company would be within thier rights to either put up the premium or cancel the policy if this is circumstance. As others have said having the policy cancelled would result in high premiums elsewhere so if this is the case paying might be the best way forward. Personally I wod phone the insurance company and ask for why and for options......

All that being said if you told them of accident and they had all the informatiob they cannoy put up premium for the year except at renewal and you do not have to renew with them.
