Car insurance renewal

I find it strange that the Yeti, that's worth about £3000, is about the same price as the Zed that's worth 4 times more and is about 3 times the power :?

Depends if it has more mileage on it - if you 12k in that it will bump up prices, I have a corse on 10K and its £300 so how the hell it works, who knows :o

Yeti is at 140k, declared 4000 miles pa, same as the Z4, which is a year newer but has 61k on the clock.

Z4 is £172.00 p/a for me with declared remap. Wife as main driver (46), me as named (53), with LV. 4k mileage, social and commuting for her. Protected NCB, no claims and no convictions in ten years. We live in centre of town (not a high risk town obviously).
Got a multi-car policy with three cars on; all are cheap as chips.

I can't recommend Chris Knott highly enough. Thankfully I've never had to make a claim but in all my dealings with them their customer service has been exemplary.

Prior to joining them my car was on a 'run of the mill' policy with a hefty excess and insured for whatever was considered 'market value' by their team of tasty underwriter's.

Chris Knott directed me to a classic car policy (who knew you could insure a Z4 this way?) and I couldn't be happier.
My renewal came through this week at 216.00 fully comprehensive which includes an agreed valuation of 12k and a very reasonable excess of 100.00. NCD is not applicable to the policy either so I took my 15 years or whatever it was and used it on my everyday car.

I should add that I'm not in any way affiliated to Chris Knott Insurance

Im with LV through Chris Knott. Last year premium was £700 ish including breakdown cover. (37 yrs old, 6 years no claims bonus). I guess it's down to the London postcode that's so expensive!

Would have lost my no claims this year when someone hit me in the car park if it wasn't for the dash cam !

that's cheap and I will be going multiyear this year as well, they must realise two people and three cars one is not going anywhere at some point :D

LV have been aggressively targeting the "average middle-aged driver with a good history" market for a few years. There is a downside (isn't there always); their excesses tend to be pretty hefty, which isn't a problem unless you claim :)

im in that camp - didn't try them as happy with the £202 I have paid

After seeing that LV could be a cheaper option, I spent 10 mins on their website trying to get a quote for the Zed..... only to be turned down as my job doesn't fit in with their acceptable profiles!!
I'm a part time self employed courier and drive like a vicar in the van, but I guess they think we're all Hamilton wannabees and drive like tw@ts

I had a similar problem years ago when I had a part-time job delivering online shopping.

I can't remember which insurer it was but it was a "no quote" from one that I tried.

That probably based on white van man and his driving antics - I assume they did not believe that you were using the zed as a delivery vehicle?

Nope. I made that clear. Z4's don't make very good delivery vehicles. Not when you're delivering flat pack furniture, trees, compost etc etc....

Well I am sure my misses would have me try to get some stuff from Ikea in mine - good job my lad has a T5

Problem I think is that you are not an "average middle-aged driver" for their criteria. LV are cheap within a limited criteria. The word "COURIER" probably throws up a red flag to them.
Driving like a vicar in a van will not translate to their (or any underwriters') statistical algorithms.

Vehicle insurance is all about statistical risk. There is a national database that ALL insurance underwriters have access to and use to ascertain your "risk". Different insurers look at these risks, based on your risk history, using computer algorithms these days. Certain insurance companies target different "risk" markets at any one time because they assess it will make them more money. The trick is finding the insurer (not the broker) that is targeting your "risk" at the time to get the lowest premium. They don't want to make it easy (a bit like trying to find the cheapest energy supplier) :D
