Car hire excess insurance

The Hertz car I have rented in France has an excess of 1100EUROS and the underbody/tyres/windcreen etc are no covered.

I can take out super cover with Hertz for £80 which brings that all down to nothing, or a colleague said that it is possible to insure your excess on a hire car with another company - a quick google found that I could do this for about £15 for the week.

Anybody any experience with this??

That is a very interesting point as I was not aware of this, and the costs of the CDW is always horrendous with the hire companies - who I really don't trust.

I hire a lot of cars ..... mainly for work.
Experience has taught to always take their own full excess insurance.

If you have damage and its not covered on their policy, they smack your credit card and its up to you to sort it out.

A colleague returned a car in Holland and they banged him for over 1000 euros for rim damage .... and he swears he didnt do it.

Another collegue wrote a car off in the schipol tunnel - and they hit him for a new car - well, he was over the limit - so never drink and drive in rental cars :D

My company self insures and you claim anything on expenses.

When a colleague claimed for a new Ford Focus they didn't even blink...
