Can't start the car and wing mirror broken...

Hi all

Just went out to start the car today and all I can hear is a clicking/clunking noise and all my lights (headlights and random dash warning lights) flickering away as the engine trys to ignite. No engine noise just the clunking noise that I can hear. Does this sound like a dead battery?.... If so, is the battery easy to change yourself in a Z4 '03?

I have also recently had my passenger side wing mirror snapped off by some lovely pesdestrians (it was parked with the passenger side curb side). The arm is broken but everythings else is in perfect condition. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to get the whole thing changed at a dealers? Anyone know how much this might be?

Thanks in advance...

dead battery indeed :) I'm quite experienced with that in the z now :P

try getting a jump before you buy a new battery, as you may have just left a light on etc..

I'm afraid I know nothing of the mirrors yet, but you could always claim on insurance?

Mirror - might vary with model, but this is roughly the construction:

Bit of luck you will just need to change one part. If you look on Cooper BMW Parts that will give you a rough price for new.

Agreed sounds like dead battery. Here's the link to the Cooper site;

I have used them and if the parts are in stock turnaround is 24 hours.

And an e bay link....

Get a complete new mirror from a breakers and fit your colour coded mirror cover onto it. I think the new price will frighten you.

Here's a good place to start a search;

Thanks guys for all your help. I'll start looking for a replacement wing mirror from the breakers and see how things go with them first...

Also, the wing mirror snapped cleanly but I think it can be temporarily taped back on with some strong duct tape (or whatever strong tape is called!), is it illegal to drive the car with a taped on wing mirror?

With regards to the battery, I'll try and jump start it first and see if the charge holds then will get it replaced asap.

Have you seen the price for a dipping, chromatic X5 mirror? £1500 I kid you not ...
