Can't open door with key

Wondering if anyone knows how to fix this? I have a 2003z4 the driver's side door key hole only works to lock the door, it will not turn the other direction to unlock the door . The key fob will lock and unlock the doors so the work. But a replacement key is $300. When had the car at dealership they wanted almost $1000 to change lock cylinder key and reprogram the keys. Trying to figure out how to use the key to unlock when the key dies. Only the driver's side has a key hole. Passenger door can only be opened from the inside or key fob. Any ideas?

I would guess that spraying some lubricant in the keyhole **might** help. You will get more replies if you post in the appropriate sub forum for your specific model and include in the post (or your signature) which particular model you have.

I'm not being awkward; I would expect that most users don't visit this section very often, but will check the sections for their car type, and so your post is more likely to be spotted.

Thanks will do that. This was my first post. Did get somewhere, did that, let it sit overnight. Got it to turn the other way but still very tough to turn left. Don't want to break the key.

It might be because nobody has ever used the key in the lock in 20 years!

I'd keep lubricating it and turning the key gently - hopefully you'll get there.

Anyway welcome to the forum.

Now we just need some photos of your Z4!
