Never seen it done, but no reason not to be possible, but as you ask...

You'd have to be prepared for a lot of other work around it, aside propshaft, re-gearing diff, pedal box, etc. the biggest issue would be the electronics (ECU or other) that control and co-ordinate the engine and gearbox. They are very closed mapped together

The long and short is you can do just about anything to any car, if your pockets are deep enough.

Why you would want to though is beyond me. It was kept as a manual for a reason, its a drivers car, not to mention that BMW are yet to make a reliable auto box.

This ^^ the thought of having an auto in my M Coupe is horrific. The whole point of the S54 is for instant driver excitement. Mating it with an auto you might as well buy a 320d Auto and save on fuel too.

As already mentioned , anything is possible with deep pockets , but barring a physical disability , I can't think of a reason why to do it .
If you need an auto swap to a more modern m3 or the like , or buy an older snotter and run 2 cars , either way it will probably be cheaper , especially in the long run , you'll have a very limited market come re sale .

If you read the majority of threads started by this poster there are many weird & wonderful 'market research' style questions.. Seems a bit strange.

I think if it had been made a few years later a manual would have been an option. As it is the 3 litre auto is perfectly good enough

True that Z jamie

And really guys an M with an auto?
