Can I use airbag modules from 6/7 series with same part no?

Hi folks

I need to change me left b pillar module.

Part no is 6945157

Apparently same as 6974366

When I search ebay both of these popup but say from a 6 series and 7 series.

Are these interchangeable?

If so can anyone here code the VIN numbers if I post to them?

Thanks!

BMW have always had a very logical and very modular approach to stuff. There's parts that were numbered and then used for over 20 years on endless different cars. If the part numbers are the same, then they're the same unit.

The only caveat would be for programmable modules where there may be different settings. I've never done anything with b pillar modules so I don't know how clever they are but if the price is affordable I'd be all over the 6/7er ones

Checked for you- yep listed for both cars so all good

Same part number so it will work but it will need coding to your car as it needs the vehicles Vin number programmed into it.

Yeah ended up going for 6962887 which is apparently compatible on realoem: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partxref?q=65776962887

Thanks chaps will give it a whirl. Can anyone here code the VIN? As I will need that done and likely won't find the time to do myself right now?

You need to tell us where you are, you may be lucky to find a member with the correct software to code the module for you, it needs NCS Expert and NCS Dummy or WinKPF or Tool32 which comes with the INPA diagnostics package you can get on ebay from BCables seller.

Thanks, yeah I need someone lol. I can do this stuff but I'm too short on time to get into it all. Prob is the car isn't MOT'd so may need to send to someone. If it needs to be done in vehicle and can't be done on bench then perhaps someone with a breaker or project car can code it.

I'll see if it works first!

Needs to be coded on the car, when programming it will take your Vin number from one of the other modules the data is held in, the SRS system will also require a system start carried out with the coding software otherwise you will get a fault code indicating the module has the wrong Vin in it and you will get an airbag light that won't clear because of the mismatched Vin.

Oh balls. Okay, the car is off road with no MOT.

If I have to carry this out myself, what are the options?

Cheapest option vs simplest option?

I did see a google doc on procedure and it looked bloody long 😂

Unless there's anyone near Devon I can pay to come and do it for me in situ?

Thanks!
