Can heavy rain trigger the alarm?

The alarm went off again this evening when it was raining heavily. I checked the car manual, it only says alarm system responds: when a door, the hood or the luggage compartment lid is opened; to movements inside the vehicle; when the car's inclination changes; and when there is an interruption in the power supply from the battery.

Can vibration or shock trigger the alarm? Did anyone have same experience of false alarm under heavy rain?

I've seen my neighbour's Jag XF alarm going off with heavy rain/hailstones.

Could it just be the vibration that's triggering the interior motion detectors?

Hi Ksher,

Yes my E89 has done this a couple of times in heavy rain also.

Presumably the sensor is a tad sensitive when this is happening.

I take it the dealer can 'tweak' this sensitivety down a bit ?.

Well the heavy rain triggered the alarm in my mates 120d. Although to be fair that's more to do with a water leak into the boot meaning the ecu's are completey submerged

My alarm has gone off a few time when it raining but I think it has more to do with the wind than the rain since a good strong wind has also set it off a number of times.

Mine has been fixed for this.

There is a PUMA for it. It's the sound of the rain hitting the door where there is a sensor fitted. The dealer fits some insulation between the door and the sensor.

You can bypass the sensor by hitting the lock button twice quickly (light under rear view mirror lights steady for a second, then flashes again as normal).

This is for a UK E89............

You can replicate it yourself with a hose pipe when washing the car.
