Can brushed aluminium be refurbished?

Hi all!

Can brushed aluminium be refurbished? The brushed aluminium trim on my transmission tunnel has a few marks in it where it's been hit with a seatbelt/watch/bracelet etc. and it would be nice to get it looking brand new again. I've had a look on google but came across nothing!

You will have to do the lot though, any attempts to repair will result in a match that will not match the rest like the 3 pieces that were for sale on ebay recently.

Probably best to leave as is or wrap.
 
You can re-furb yourself using a thin oil and a scotch pad. You have to rub with decreasing pressure as the marks come out and only ever in the direction of the grain, it takes ages but does work. However as already pointed out any re-furb will give you a different finish.

Have you tried any of the on-line part finders that are linked to scrapyards? Someone like Breakeryard.com There's loads of these websites that link up breakers yards. You might be able to get a replacement... Worth a go.
 
When you say marks, do you mean little cuts and nicks? My 3.0 had a few of those, I agree with SRH that any attempt to repair will look worse.

This might not help with mark's, but a great way of cleaning the dash i found it to use a clay bay with quik detailer brings it up like new :)

Maxum whats the finish like after still look OEM ?

To the OP as above will have to do the whole piece as it will alter the finish plus if you have to remove the part to do this you may as well replace or wrap/paint but that will mean doing the rest of the ally trim to match.
 
It brightens up the Alloy, it looks all fresh and new. it dosent harm it, the clay gets it to the groves of the alloy and lifts the dirt build up you can see straight away, a light spray of detailer and go with the grain on the dash with the clay and then a dry cloth, job done 8)
 
Give it a shot with a magic sponge - can buy them form Halfords (they're called the Great White Sponge in there). It's a foam sponge which you dampen and rub over the trim. I did mine today and looks so much better.
