im thinking about changing the audio set up in my z4, as i dont have the correct amp in the car and im disappointed with the performance of the speakers behind the seat, i think i get something out of them as you can feel a thump in the back when at very high volume, but it only kicks in on bass or drum kicks, or so it seems.

basically im no diy'er so can anyone recommend a car audio firm ideally anywhere between birmingham and manchester? i want to have the head unit changed to an iphone compatible one, but i dont want to have to replace all the speakers hopefully.

Is Sheffield between Birmingham and Manchester? :?

Shropshire is :P

I know a good place in Worcester, about half an hour from you... they'll be doing some stuff to mine soon and they fitted a tracker for me in the past.

well anywhere will do, sheffield isnt too far actually - just looking for somewhere that will do a good job. i think i know what headunit im after now - http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=iDA-X305 .

andy - whats the name of the place?

Well if you can travel to Sheffield then i can reccomend Source Sounds

cheers lucy - ill give them a call. reason i want a firm to do it is the car has an after market sony blue tooth system already and i dont fancy tearing up the dash to remove it so im happier to pay someone to remove it, plus take out the bmw cd changer and amp, and drop in new bits as required.

hmm - just having a look in the car - managed to get a few things out - starting to think i may be able to do the bulk of stuff myself now! i can fit the head unit no probs, but it now looks like i will need to change what i had in mind. as i cant find a replacement bmw amp ill have to fit a 2nd amp and replace the 4 speakers behind the seats, as i want to removed the cd changer anyway i hope an amp could be fitted there out of the way. as i want to change the head unit i assume there will be an additional out i can use to feed a 2nd amp.

andy - that place is closer to me than the one in sheffield, ill drop you a pm as i might ask them to quote me to do whats required, and ill just stick to the easy part of just changing the head unit!

i wonder if i could recoup any money selling a cd changer & some speakers ? probably not a great amount

Agree with this.

used them myself for years. I finally went DIY when they had to cancel an appointment due to illness (no problems I was just impatient! :D ) so have done most things myself for the last few years.

But a great bunch and excellent work

oh bugger :( :( :(

after more playing about and the other audio thred its clear i cant do what i was planning - as the standard bmw business head unit sends a digital signal to the amp (regardless of the amp i currently have) which means if i want an alpine unit id have to replace he entire audio system - i may as well bite the bullet and go to a dealer to see what a carver amp will cost and just replace the cd changer for an ipod kit!

thanks for everyones help and input though!!!
