Can anybody help identify my springs?

Hi folks,

I always thought my car didn't sit right so I got it up in the air today. Looking at the front everything seems ok with Eibach/Alpina springs but on the rear it would appear the previous owner put BMW springs on (or the garage did). The part number is 3353 6780 605 and they look quite new. I don't suppose anybody would know if these are standard BMW springs or would they be the sport ones? The car does seem to sit quite high at the back.

In addition to this does anybody know if the Alpina/Eibach springs are any different to the aftermarket Eibach ones? As I have mismatched springs I'm thinking about changing the whole lot out but I was just wondering if it would drop things further if I did.

TIA

3353 6780 605 isn't listed on RealOEM, so may not be BMW original. Not sure if Alpina use the BMW part format? They could be aftermarket OE spec from somewhere like Euro Car Parts.

Not sure about the Alpina/Eibach springs. For the cost of a set of 4 Eibachs (not sure you can buy them singularly anyway) against the cost of BMW ones, I'd replace the lot. As for the drop, on level ground what is the distance from the floor to the arch front and back?

None of the springs get listed, have a read of this, you'll need someone with the parts database to look up your specific car. As with what Pawn says, Eibach springs all round sounds like a nice idea.

Oh dear...I wonder what springs I have! Both springs still had BMW stickers on them so I'm pretty sure they will be genuine. The numbers were just legible and I was sure I wrote them down correctly. The NSR was 3353 6780 605 and OSR 3353 6_ _0 605 (The _ _ being numbers that had worn off). Judging by the numbers below the OS and NS springs should have different part numbers too!

The Alpina ones had 31 33 122 stamped on them (with 47/03 which is probably the date) and one of them had a sticker with 31 33 802 9273 on it. I'll check the measurements tomorrow.

Thanks for the response guys.

The number on the label of parts is often not the actual part number, as odd as it may sound,

Perhaps a dealer can cross check from that number, to an actual part number for you to identify what you have.
