Cam chain damaged

Oh dear, problems with my zed.

Had loss of power and the engine management light come on yesterday, pulled over and called the AA.

Looks like a guide for the cam chain has broken and caused the chain to move, it looks like it has slipped two teeth now it has been stripped today.

I think I maybe lucky and not done any further damage and will just require a new chain and tensioners.

Will know more later but today I am driving a friends 30th anniversary Civic type R running 300hp, revs to 93000 rmp, a group M, coil-overs, up-rated bushes, upgraded anti roll bars, and a full spoon race system. It doesn't like the rain but bloody hell what a machine. It pulls like a beast and handles awesome.

Lucky one of my good friends own the garage and we always look after one another. I hoping he is only going to change for parts lol

Its s**t though, I was looking at going to test drive some cars yesterday when this happened. The car must have know it was going

I'm going to hazard a guess and say this must be a 2.0 engine. It a regular occurrence on the 3 series with this engine unfortunately. The good news is its whats called a non interference engine which means the valves and pistons can't come into contact with each other. Still not a cheap fix but certainly nothing like the cost of a rebuild with internal engine damage. Hope its sorted soon.

fingers crossed it wont be to much but Im not sure whats involved tbh.

fingers crossed it wont be to much but Im not sure whats involved tbh.

Its usually the tensioner that causes all the trouble and it cascades from there. The remedy is new tensioner, chains, guides and the oil pickup in the sump needs a clean becuase all the bits of broken guides accumulate there. At a BMW specialist/indie garage its usually circa £500-750ish. But obviously prices/labour rates vary wildly. Hopefully you will be back up and running soon.

Just had a call from the garage and its all done part from taking the sump off to drain and get the crap out. apparently the sub frame has to come off but I will have it back in the morning.

I need to buy my mate a few drinks, he has worked on it all day and recons it will be about £270 all in.

Defiantly, I was on auto trader looking at Ftype jags Sunday night expecting the engine to be foooked.
