Good news OP
We lost our dog last year, she went missing one afternoon whilst out walking. We put up flyers in every conceivable place; cafe's, supermarket notice boards, shops, etc etc. even got a piece in the local paper.
24 hours later (and after many calls) we got a positive sighting, drove to the place ( very fast) and found her.
My experience is that people will pay attention and keep a look out.

Both our cats have done similar to us - put you through hell while they're gone, then one morning they're sitting back on the couch... Part of me wants to throttle them for doing that to us but I'm always so glad to get them back. 10 days is going some - any ideas what happened? One of ours was missing for around 10 days a couple of years ago over Christmas/New Year: we think he wandered into someones garage and was shut in for the holiday.
ally by the looks of him i think he was locked in some where ,he had lost a lot of weight but he was very clean for cat that's been out for ten days.
There is one thing strange which i'm sure is just coincidence, a friend of the misses does tarot card readings she phoned her up that night and said she had did a reading to see what had happened to him, she told her that he was still alive and she was going to do another reading today to see if she could determin where he might be. Than as we all know he turned up this morning , spooky ah.

Just dared to look at the post again, and so pleased that there was a happy ending!
In general, people are kind and do keep a look out, we had a flyer put through the door a couple of weeks ago for a missing cat, it's on the fridge because whilst its unlikely that she'll come into our garden/garage with the 2 dog-a-roos, we're keeping an eye out.

Nice to see a happy ending, good to he looks none the worse for it.
Thinking about it there's not much between pets and teenagers, lay around all day doing nothing, get fed and looked after at great expense, go missing on an all-night'er and you get everybody cooing and pampering you to make sure your'e OK
