Cabin filter removal-

Facelift cars (at least LHD) have an extra centre plastic expansion rivet holding the kick panel in place. Pull out the centre pin, then the larger bit will then be loose enough to remove. It attaches the kick panel to a plastic strap that hangs down and threads thru the centre ventilation opening of the kick panel. A minor faff to ensure it threads thru properly on reassembly.

The other difficulty I had besides confirming which way the filter goes (thanks a lot yootoob dood :x ) was figuring out how the actual filter cover gets replaced. It sort of just fell out when I was randomly pulling on things, it's hard to see how things work in bad lighting when you're standing on your head.

The way it is intended to be removed is you press a little release tab at the very top which is difficult to see, and slide the cover about 1/2 inch horizontally (away from transmission for LHD), at which point the retaining tabs disengage and the cover falls out. So to replace, push it up (the filter tends to push it down out of position) into position except offset that same 1/2 inch, then slide it back horizontally into place until the retaining tab engages.

I did take some pictures when I did this, intending to do a how-to. It's near the bottom of my lengthy to-do list, so don't hold your breath waiting.
 
Reviving an old thread, I changed my cabin filter today. Had the same dilemma, the existing filter looked original and had arrows pointing to one side and the word front. This side was facing the engine bay.

The new Mann filter had arrows on saying air flow direction. I also watched the above YouTube vid.

So on the new filter I put it in he other way so the arrows are facing the back of the car.

Anyone know if I've put it in the wrong way?

Right is the old filter (the carbon side you see was facing the front of the car)

You have it right. Arrows to the back of the car, the airflow comes in through the filter and then flows into the cabin towards the back of the car.
 
I have just serviced my day car and replaced cabin filter with a Crosland one. No marking at all on it showing direction. I am guessing they are not directional now on other car makes.

Can't get eurocarparts to load properly on my phone for some reason. But it was the carbon Mann filter. ECP Part no 507110269

Ive attached a pic of the box it came in.
