Took off the interior light panel

Often neglected and they can get pretty horrible - clogged, smelly, musty and more.

Should this have been changed as part of a dealership Insp2 service?, if so I might pop mine out & check.

Did it once on my previous Zed (with non-automatic AC). Similar pictures:





Will do it again in the nearby future on my current Zed. As far as I know it is not part of Inspection 2.

Thanks for the tip Smartbear; this is not something I'd even thought about doing! Since using an indy rather than BMW garage, things only get done if I ask for them...and I'd not asked for this one.

Having Googled the TIS instructions it looks like something I can easily do myself (when the car gets back in 10 days time from it's re-spray). Where did you get the filter, and how much did you pay?

Are there other little jobs like this that I ought to be considering?

I got the filter from eurocarparts for about a fiver, my car came with a wad of dealers bills so a bit surprising its in this state! Just fiddly to fit, not hard.

I think OEM is an activated charcoal filter which is why they are a black/grey colour.

It doesn't look like you have used charcoal filters as your replacements. Think these are about £45 though (part no: 64319195194) from stealers or you can get MAHLE filters for £20 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-M-...e-Lak234-/111230732257?_trksid=p2054897.l5658)

That would explain why the pollen filters at ECP range from £4.20 to just over £19 then.

The filter should be changed under the Inspection 1 schedule ( and therefore the inspection 2 schedule as well)

I'll definitely remove mine to check then, I have a feeling that they rushed my Insp2 back in mid Dec, I wondered if it was rushed at the time as the car wasn't booked in when I arrived despite the email chain to the service manager confirming the booking & I think they squeezed the booking in.

The car also came out with a slight misfire as they'd manage to strip part of the insulation on a coil pack whilst changing the plugs

James at Redish Motorsport changed this filter on my car during the Oil Inspection he did on Saturday. Didn't look as mucky as yours but was a couple of years old. He said they often get forgotten about.
