After having my 08 2.0 Z4 for only 6 months and loved it. I had an opportunity to move to a newer model, with the spec i had been looking for. I took the leap and purchased her yesterday
Not a cloud in the sky come collection. Took my daughter and had a leisurely drive home, love it. So different to my older Z4
So got home and gave her a good clean, then clay barred and a non abrasive cleaner
Finished work at lunch today and gave her a wax and picked my son up from school. Number one daughter not impressed, but she had already had a go
Purchases will be a cover, cats like to sit on cars where i live, and black seems a favourite
Look forward to many miles ahead

Very nice, I also have the 3.0i E89 :) Why do people bother with the 2,5??

There's a lot more of them & they're better value are pretty good reasons I suppose

Without trying to agitate people with the 2.5 I honestly can't see why second hand you wouldn't buy the 3.0i? Same on fuel (ish) and tax but with 50+bhp more power.

Even insurance wasn't a lot different for me.

I had a 3.0l E89 until recently and I loved it !
As it's been said, 50bhp is not to be sneezed at.
I think torque is better as well

Even servicing is basically the same, as you say more power and torque. I just don't understand why you'd go for the 2.5. I do understand why people bought them new if there were good deals on but second hand I don't get it! :headbang:

When you start thinking along those lines, why would you bother with the 3.0 and not just get the 35i.
For us it was a case of what was available for our budget and trying to find one in the colour we wanted with lowish miles. There wernt many 3.0 around never mind good condition and colour.
We have had our 23i for over 3 years and realistically there has been only a handful of times when more power would have been handy.
The speed limit is 70 and the roads are crap mostly.

The 35i is not comparable wit the 3.0i is it? Higher running costs all round. I think you are more correct about not so many 3.0i compared with the 2.5 with regards to choices of colour and spec.
As for the old 70 mph comment, come on we've all exceeded that a few times! I see you also have a bike? Have you only ever hit 70 mph?

Having been in that camp, I bought the 23 because, well it was an impulse purchase and I turned my nose up at the automatic in the 30. And at the time I didn't know of the 35.

The 23 was perfectly acceptable, and alright fuel economy but wasn't overly quick. And as soon as I test drove an iS a couple of years ago I knew it would be my next car. I just have to wait until I can ditch my Mini daily driver I have on PCP. (Sadly that's.still about a year away, if my calculations are correct.)

I was just meaning that every step up although have benefits they also have slight disadvantages.
You already mentioned slightly higher fuel consumption and insurance costs. Dont know about the tax for each model, Im sure ours is £265.
The same goes for stepping up to a 35i or 35is, higher fuel consumption and dearer insurance.
If we were in the position to wait for a 3.0 we probably would have but we didnt want to be looking for months and months and a 23i came up first.
I do have a bike and never go above 68mph :D

Thanks for the kind words on my car
On the subject of running costs, i wasn't looking forward to telling the insurance company of the change of vehicle
I have come from bike insurance, have a van self employed and a named driver on wife policy. So had to start back at no no claims
Well shocked wasn't the word, on ringing and giving details, it was cheaper! Can only think its going from soft top to hard
Added bonus, i thought the road tax was much higher, its the same as the 2.0. Happy days!!

I had a SAAB Aero convertible before I got my 23i. The SAAB was 210bhp, 0-60 in 8 seconds, and I thought that a 23i would have about the same performance. On paper it was quicker, better 0-60 and higher top speed, but it didn't feel quicker on the road. Certainly between 40 and 80 (ish...) the SAAB was really quick. Both the SAAB and the 23i were autos, great for London traffic, but not very involving to drive. I was thinking about a 30i manual, there were a few about, but none had everything that I was looking for (not black or white - apologies to anyone with a black or white car, but I'm an idle git and they would never be clean, iDrive, 19in wheels, lowish mileage) and then a 35i manual came up...
The 23i has gone to pastures new, I'm worrying about turbos and high pressure fuel pumps, but the 35i is a great car. Overall fuel consumption is a little higher than the 23i (around 30mpg vs around 32mpg), tax and insurance is about another £75 a year, but it's so much better to drive, and if I was worried about a couple of hundred quid a year I'd have a Fiat Panda.
Cheers,
Dave

You are now a slave to a beautiful gleaming black finish. You are also to be enslaved to satisfy your addiction to late night drives and smoothly running through the gears hearing one of the best engines ever made.
You are doomed
Enjoy

Beautiful choice, my E85 is now in the garage for winter as the weather/salt plays havoc with the soft top....
