Hello all, this is my first post so please be gentle with me.
I am currently driving an Audi TT quattro which i have had for 5 yrs and,to be fair has served me well and is an alround good car.
I am now looking to change it and a Z4 roadster around 2006/7 is top of my wish list but I'm not sure what size engine to go for.
Is the 3.0 ltr hideous on petrol ? I would also like a power roof, is this standard on any particular model or is it an opp extra across the range ?
Sorry for souning like a thicko but we all have to start somewhere I suppose :oops:
 
Powered roof standard (and extremely fast). You'll be looking at a 3.0Si - not hideous at all on petrol. On a run you can get mid 30's easily - and road driving, lowest would be low to mid 20's if its being driven very hard. I get similar mileage to my old Mini Cooper S.
 
3.0Si is low 30's mpg on a mixed drive so very good, also only needs 95RON.
Power hood is standard.
 
Oh, one more thing - your TT will have been turbo charged (unless a 3.2?) so I would go for a 3.0 definitely as the missing torque from the turbo will be a little too evident otherwise.
 
You must go for the 3.0, only a couple of miles less mpg than a 2.5 :driving:

Regularly drive in sport mode still get between 24-26mpg mixed driving :D :D
 
Electric seats, leather, auto lights and wipers also standard on the 3.0i. Most cars will have a few options on top of this. For me heated seats and the upgraded stereo were 'must haves' (you can spot the upgraded stereo as there are big speaker panels behind the seats, or storage bins instead if it doesnt have the upgrade). Sat Nav is good for resale but like most OEM systems it is expensive to keep it up to date and doesnt have a lot of the functionality available from a tomtom/Garmin.

As others have said, MPG really very good for the size of the engine.

I have only just got rid of my TT, i had the 3.2 dsg version. Not sure which you have, but you might find the 2.5 lacking a bit, nice car, good mpg, but did not give me the buzz. I did not try the 3lt and made the fatal mistake and test drove a M. I have had my M a year now and it is far more expensive to run than the TT (if you do not take into account the engine rebuild and new dsg gearbox - just under £7K of bills in one year, hence it went a few weeks ago :x ), but the 3ltr would be on par, with both the running costs and mpg. It will be more fun than the TT.

The TT feels a lot bigger and more roomy and i still love the looks of the old one, the Z4 far more stylish but does feel smaller. There was something about the TT i loved, but mine was too unreliable. The 4WD is great on the TT and handles better than the Z4, but overall I think the Z4 is definetely the better car.

I use to have an SLK and test drove the new version before i bought my Audi and tried another before i bought the Z, beautifully crafted cars, but not an exciting drive, but depends on what you want. Sounds like a decent spec 3lt is the way for you to go. Go and test drive a few.

Do not think you will regret swapping to a Z, i certainly havent. Still smiling after a year :D

I would def avoid the 2.0, and probably the 2.5 - the Si from 2006 onwards gives you 265bhp with no more running costs the the 2.5 and generally a better spec.
 
If you can afford it, go for the 3.0si, the 2.5si is quite quick but you would always regret not having that extra 50 bhp, I know I did, and another point my 2.5si had a resonance on the exhaust between 75 -80 mph, you either had to run below or above it on the motorway.
