Buying a used Z4 - cost of ownership?

Hi all,

First post here and hopefully there will be many more to come once I enter the world of being a Z4 owner! I have decided that I'd like to aim for a Z4 sDrive 23i (2009 on) with manual transmission. It seems like a good model with the retractable hardtop and the straight 6 engine.

I have a budget of £17-£18k, so I think I'm looking for an 09 or a 59 plate.

I've seen a nice example of a 09 plate with only 10k miles.

If I buy a car with this kind of age and mileage, what sort of of costs should I expect over the next 3 years? I've had a look at Indie Garageprices and I see "Inspection 1" @ £130 and "Inspection 2" @ £180. When are these required on a Z4? What level of servicing should I expect to have alreadby been completed on a 09 car with 10k miles?

It should have had its first service at two years of age.If you're really lucky the first owner will have bought the service pack which transfers with the car;then you won't have to pay for the next service. Good luck .
 
I have 23i 09 plate 18k£, 30k miles.
Costs road tax £250
Insurance about £350
Mpg 33 to 41 so far.
Hope to do most servicing my self. Done oil change 2x 5litre mobil 1 £40
Oil filter £8, Air filter £15.
Ebc brake pads £40 pair.
Goodyear asymettrics tyres £85.

If you can buy BMW approved, i'm just getting a rattly rear axle sorted.
After that hope nothing major goes wrong.
When looking at prices try get best spec you can like idrive sat nav.
 
i bought a service pack with mine direct from a BMW dealer which offers 5 years servicing for around £700 (i think), so it works out a fair bit cheaper compared to standard servicing if you want it all done at a dealer. For a car such as this, its my preference, as a main dealer will have all the software bug upgrades etc, as well as recall fixes which independents wont always have sight of.

The biggest cost for me however was tyres - i have 19"s and to replace the back tyres recently with like for like runflats was £612 (most places they are even more expensive, i got a good deal). I could have replaced all 4 with non run flats but it would not have worked out cheaper.
