Buyer advice - cabin wear

Z4 experts - need your advise.

I'm on a mission to buy a nice 2003 2.5i.

Just came back from a show room where I looked at a low milage (30,000) red z4 with heated black leather.

I was surprised how worn the interior was for its age. Almost to the extent where I started questioning if the milage was genuine?!?!

Here are some photos of the wear which I feel is excessive. Could I have some input - is this sort of wear normal for Z4's?

I've never had a BMW before so not sure what to expect in terms of wear (my main car is an 2009 Audi A4) Beofre that I had another audi a4 (full leather interior) which I ran upto 60,000 and had no visible wear on the interior whatsoever. So I was a little shocked to see so much wear on both the seat and the gear lever.

Thanks in advance!

Is the car from BMW dealer? The condition of the interior is unacceptable for the car that has only done 30k miles. The car could be clocked! It is more like it has done over 80k miles.

No it was a Nissan dealer. They seemed like a good bunch but didn't know much about BMWs.

The digital display clearly showed circa 30,000 miles. Is clocking possilbe on Z4s?

Oh and another thing:

Correct me if I'm wrong but that looks like it's been sprayed.

See the middle hole? Looks like paint.

Would probably have come off within a few months to reveal horrible scratches considering the state of the seats!!!!

The bolster wear doesn't surprise me for a 6 year old car, not that unusual TBH, and the gearknob isn't from a Z4 (I don't think a UK one anyway) - it has been swapped out. Maybe someone stole the original one and they replaced it with this one?

:idunno:

My 70k car is not that worn! Ok the bolster is not great, a few marks on the door handle thingy and the centre console but thats it, gearknob is no way as worn as that one.

I'd wait for a better example, unless its got perfect history, mechanically sound and a bargain price then don't bother.

That is the 2.5 gear knob for a UK car ...

The previous owner could be a female who had regular sex with her car. That will explain why a car with only 30k miles and have such gear knob.

The man at the dealiership said she used a lot of hand cream so the finish came off the knobs

this would also explain the malfanction in the key whereby the unlock button didn't work. The cream must have gotten into the electrics.

Apologies for spamming. In the context of the previous message my CREAM remark is totally inappropriate. I'd like to clarify that he was referring to HAND CREAM.

Mine is 50k and is still unmarked. My seat bolsters are as new. Looks a bit dodgy to me matey

Im with everyone else, just doesn't look right for 30k :o

Mine has 45k and the bolster is a little worn but nothing like that and the gearstick nothing like that. Either the previous owner wore lots of jewellery and never took their hand of it or it done a fair few more miles....

mines on 60K now on an 03 and the bolster wear is a little worse than that.

Cant comment on the gear stick though. whether original or not but it does look a little excessive.

unless of course the passenger was always grabbing hold of it as the driver was scaring the crap out of them (enjoying themselves) :)

The wheel has been refurbished at some point, they outer rim should be machine polished with clear laquer but this has poor longevity and ends up looking a mess. Most choose to get them painted as its cheaper and will give a more durable finish (at the expense of looks).
