Burning Smell

I've been concerned for a while now that I'm smelling an intermittent burning smell when driving. Only seems to appear after 5 mins of driving from cold, then I don’t smell it again.

It's like the fumes from other cars suddenly coming into the cabin and then disappears after a minute. Really strange!

Not sure whether it's an oil drip that hits something hot in the engine or it literally is others people's car fumes coming through the air con.

Anyone else experienced anything similar?

I like the diagnosis of fluid dripping into the exhaust. Burns off as soon as the exhaust is hot, then you don't get it again on the journey. Time to do some looking around torch in hand.

If it were other cars then it would happen at any time.

Looks like I'm crawling around the garage floor this saturday morning.

Well it will help with the hangover at least. :coffee:

Ive had this for a while now... although im not too concerned about it as i dont think its anything major. I would still be interested in knowing what it is thats causing it. Update the post if u find anything, i think i might have a snoop around this weekend myself.

Will do. I'm actually going to retrofit my cruise control at the weekend, so I'm sure that will involve having my head in the engine bay a lot this weekend. I'm sure after the official BMW 0.75-1.0 hours work, I'll have plenty of time to sort out the burning smell issue.

Wish me luck.
