bumps & scratches

Hi all,
My car's in the bodyshop at the moment for a new front bumper after a little roundabout incident that happened a few weeks ago... :headbang:
Anyway, I asked for a quote to have a few car-park dents and a few paint scratches removed and they've quoted me £69 per dent (x3) and about £200+vat for the paint work which seems quite a lot to me since they have already mixed the paint for the bumper. I was just wondering whether you guys think these prices are reasonable or think I'd be better off leaving it for now.

Thanks

If they have to source more paint, it may well be that they need to get more now for another job, rather than buying more from the start? Have they already done the bumper?

Paint isn't cheap, nor is the prep time to use it...

I suppose the question is, do you care about the dinks that much now, and will it add the cost to the value of the car.

Maybe best to live with them till resale, and see if they cost the car more value than it costs to get fixed. Nothing worse than having these little issues fixed now, and then have more come resale time that need doing again!

All fair points but depends how you view the car - a thing of pride and enjoyment or an asset to be bought, used and sold at minium loss. I couldn't bare to live with a dent on my posh car, hence why I have a beater for work and shopping. If the Z4 picks up a mark, it'll get sorted asap as my OCD would freak me out to know it's there!

I was going to post the exact same thing Bradders. I've got a dent in my front bumper that I'm desperate to sort, but knew I had a couple of trips to the dealers planned, so didn't want the heartache if they damaged the car.

My service is on Monday (the car's 2nd birthday!). It then needs some new tyres; but after that, I'm getting it done! (If I can ever find anywhere I trust to do it!)

I suppose it depends how big it is...

But cars pick up damage, and you ideally want to keep paintwork passes to a minimum. Each time you go over the chances for a bad job or lacquer peel from panel edges etc, or a bad match, increase. Also, it's far from cheap to get it done well! Ie, having them done as soon as they occur and paying an average price is probably worse for the long-term look of the car than waiting for a few small dinks and sorting them with one really good concourse quality job!

Again, depends how big it is etc :)

If the image/looks are number one priority, then just get it done, and pay a high price to make sure it is done right. If cost IS an option, as the OP states, then think hard about skimping on spray work!

I had a number of parking dents alongside one of my previous cars (dont ask - damn flats!). I had a quote to get it put right when I had a little prang but decided it wasnt worth it (think it was about 150-200 a side...)

Didnt actually affect my trade in value at all - just took the car down to the dealer when it was wetish and dusk

Thanks guys - I am going to leave it for now and may consider another time since I'm already forking out for the excess and there doesn't seem to be much advantage to getting the work done at the same time as the repair.

Had a trolley ding on my E92, noticed it everytime I went to the car- £95 at the dealers to remove, worth every penny as the door is now perfect
