Bumper to Bonnet Gap Adjustment

I've read a few times about the difference between each side of the bonnet where it meets the bumper edge. Some are different each side and some are just too wide. Well mine was the former, with the drivers side being too wide a gap. So on replacing my bumper this last weekend I thought I'd take a look and see if I could sort it.

Firstly it is a right pain if you don't remove the wheel and arch lining, but it can be done.
So I loosened these two bolts that hold the plastic piece in place (this plastic piece is what the top side edge of the bumper clips into)...

Then it'll slide (slightly diagonally) up and down for adjustment, not much movement, but enough!

You'll need to fit the bumper, making sure that all of the other securing bolts are in place and tight, and shut the bonnet. Then you can adjust the gap accordingly. Once the gap is correct on both sides you can then tighten the two bolts back tight and you're done.

** DISCLAIMER** Yes the inside of my arch liners were filthy, they were cleaned after I took the photos :P

Good write up..will be taking my bumper off for camera fit and respray..good to know!

I can tell you that loosening the bolts in the top middle of the bumper as well as the sides gives the ability to make the gap slight and uniform across the front and sides. Mine looks closer to perfect that i'm sure no one else but me will see any flaw. Its certainly worth the time. The only way you won't be able to get it right is if your car is no longer geometrically correct...

Thats the way I did it, except I made little plastic tool that I ran along the edge between the bonnet and the bumper skin and then tightened up the bolts to get the gap exact.
