Bulb Identification Help

So I decided to have a nose around today to know exactly what bulbs are used in my car (particularly the interior and number plate light). I'm planning on upgrading some or all of these to LEDs soon.

So after searching the forums for a bit I notice there actually seems to be a good bit of difference between bulb types even between the same models.

The storage compartment is a 501 (w5w) bulb.
As are the footwells, the boot light and my number plate lights.
This already differs from some people's where I've seen people saying their boot light or central light are festoon styles bulbs.

Anyways, now my map lights and central light in the overhead area are 6wx bulbs?

Does anyone know what these are? I have never heard of them. They look like 501 wedges but all the other bulbs specifically say w5w, whereas these say 6wx.

the number plate lights you can fit BMW 1series LED light units, straight swap wire plug either needs the key notch cut or swap connectors.

the footwell again theres some ebay ones with full LEDs fitted. glove box ect just change the bulbs for the flat circuit board ones

Thanks for the info mate. I have read that the light units from a 1 series will fit an E85. Finding bulbs/units isn't the issue. I'm just a little confused about the 6wx bulb since I've never heard of them. I could order the full new system like you have linked but if I can just buy new bulbs I'd rather do that.

Thanks for that. Pretty interesting. So going by the diagram on page 5, all bulbs in a roadster are in fact wedge types and it's the Coupe's that use a festoon type in the boot. $35 isn't bad either!
